Leandro Jesus
I am a 2nd year PhD student at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Business School, Australia. I hold a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. My research focuses on digital platform adoption by established companies (incumbents). Before commencing my PhD studies, I founded a large BPM consultancy company in Brazil and advised for many corporations on issues related to business process management, business model innovation, and digital transformation.
Digital Platforms – an Incumbent’s Point of View

The vessel represents incumbents – old and established companies, with their large and bureaucratic structures, trying to navigate in seas of high uncertainty and complexity due to digitization. The rocket, on the other side, represents digital platform natives exploring new opportunities in this digital economy. The art tries to demonstrate the challenge of evolution, from the incumbent’s point of view, in light of this emerging environment.
